Camp Fire USA was established with a strong belief in providing positive outdoor experiences for youth. Nature is one of the best classroom environments, in which students can learn all disciplines.
Camp Fire USA outdoor programs, and environmental education in particular, focus on these development outcomes:
Camp Sealth is located on 400 acres and includes a mile and half of waterfront. The opportunities for experiential education here are fantastic. Our site encompasses many diverse ecosystems which serve as the classroom. We focus on experiential education through holding classes outdoors, taking adavantage of the environment and extensive trail system.
Schools can select from a wide variety of curriculum choices, and schedules can be designed to meet each organization's needs. The Environmental Education curriculum meets many Washington State Standards for Learning and Instruction. Program activities are structured to allow diverse learners to have the most positive, beneficial experience possible. Students can be successful at camp in ways that the structure of a school setting may not allow.
Sealth's Environmental Education Program is inquiry-based. Students gain a sense of individual competency when activities lead them to discover new concepts. The learning derived from trying new things and acquiring new sklls empowers students and reinforces their understanding of the scientific method.
Sealth's curriculum revolves around the surrounding environment - we offer classes in forest, wetland and marine ecologies, sustainability, astronomy, outdoor living skills and low ropes challenge course (team-building). We also offer a variety of other outdoor/camp activities such as archery, canoeing and arts & crafts.
