Camp Sealth is a leader in inclusive programming for kids with a wide variety of ability levels. Our staff can assist campers with mild to moderate disabilities, enabling them to succeed in any camp program. To participate in Sealth’s resident camp program, a child must be able to meet personal care needs (showering, toileting, dressing, etc.) with minimal assistance or reminders, control actions and emotions, follow instructions from adults, and interact cooperatively with peers.
Sealth cannot support campers who need significant assistance with personal care, constant one-on-one attention, or who cannot control their violent or disruptive behavior. Campers may attend camp with an aide provided by the family, provided that aide passes a background check. We discourage parents from attending as aides.
Camp Sealth employs 2-3 staff members who specifically support campers with special needs at camp. They may function as an additional counselor or as a resource for counselors working with children who need extra support.
Most children are not paired with a one-on-one staff member. Due to the inclusive nature of our program, we want children to be able to succeed with relative independence. Inclusion staff will check in with campers and counselors and be available as a resource as they are needed. Inclusion staff also maintain communication with parents throughout the session to let you know how things are going.
Sealth recommends that first-time campers with special needs attend a shorter session (up to six days). Youth with special needs must be registered at least 30 days prior to the camp session to allow time for screening and assessment.
After you register, you’ll be sent an Inclusion Assessment (or you can download the form below) to provide us further details about your child so that we can provide the best possible support. The assessment form is confidential, and will only be read by the Inclusion staff and those working most closely with your child. This form needs to be mailed back to camp by May 31. If needed, the Inclusion staff will follow up with a phone call if any clarification is needed.

Our goal is to form a partnership with parents to create a successful camp experience for every child. We need your help to give us strategies and tips for working with your child, and we’ll stay in contact with you throughout the camp session. However, if you don’t hear from us during the session, that’s a sign that things are going just fine.
